Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to have the Southeast Wilderness Medicine Conference back in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this coming fall from October 4th to the 9th, and part of RiverRocks, Chattanooga’s signature outdoor festival celebrating the active lifestyle sought by and enjoyed by thousands each year.
Look at the outstanding line-up of presentations, workshops and world class faculty that will assist you in increasing your awareness of medical problems unique to the wilderness environment, gain knowledge and skills of how to prevent, diagnose and manage illnesses or injuries in the wilderness environment and create awareness of safety and accident prevention in the wilderness surrounding.
I look forward to seeing you this coming fall!

Site of the 2011 RiverRocks Southeast Wilderness Medicine Conference and one of the best places to live and play in the USA.
Chattanooga is home to an array of outdoor activities for the amateur and the expert. In fact, Outside magazine has named Chattanooga one of the 10 best towns for outdoor adventures. Bicycling magazine seconded Outside’s accolade by ranking Chattanooga in "America's Top 50 Bike-Friendly Cities." National Geographic Adventure magazine hailed Chattanooga as one of the "Best Adventure Towns in the U.S." In addition to the outdoorsy endorsements, Chattanooga was recently named as one of seven intelligent cities by a New York-based think tank.
| Whitewater and Flatwater Paddling |
| Blessed with many of the now-famous “steep creeks” within a 30 minute drive of downtown, the city also sits less than a one hour drive from the put-in on the Ocoee River where the 1996 Olympic Kayaking event took place. Flatwater paddling surrounds Chattanooga with nightly sunset paddling on the Tennessee River downtown. |
 |
| Rock Climbing |
| “Dixie Crags” surround the city with world class climbing in places like the Tennessee Wall (T-Wall) and Sunset Rock which inspired Rock & Ice Magazine to declare Chattanooga the #1 Climbing Town in the US in 2009. |
 |
| Mountain Biking |
| In 2010 the city added 2800 acres in Enterprise South Park to be devoted to new trails which augment the already famous Raccoon Mountain Trail system and the Cloudland Connector system on Lookout Mountain. |
 |
| Caving |
Hiking & Trailrunning |
| There are more than 7000 caves within an hour’s drive of Chattanooga ranging from wild, expert caving to guided wild caving to commercial caves. |
With 54 trailheads within 30 minutes of downtown Chattanooga, you can hike or run hundreds of miles in sight of downtown. |

This year’s conference will be held in conjunction with the RiverRocks Outdoor Festival.
RiverRocks is “play with a purpose.” More than ninety events offer a full complement of adventure activities - by air, land and water. Whether you have a passion for paddling or pedaling, love ropes and rocks or would rather hang glide or hike, this festival is for you. Expert competition as well as gentle thrills for casual participants of all ages await you at RiverRocks. In addition, the 10-day event will also feature entertainment, live music, hot air balloons, river cruises and more.
And, after all of the fun, RiverRocks will distribute half of the proceeds collected during the event to area land trusts and conservancies.
The RiverRocks Southeast Wilderness Medical Conference is supported by the Wilderness Medical Society. The Academy of Wilderness Medicine has approved this program and will award FAWM Credit.
